A
Plan for Making Disciples
By
Dr. James T. Dyet
A
wave of disciple-making is about to shake the nation;
and the Amy Foundation's Discipled Nation Plan Curriculum
comprises the epicenter. This powerful series of four
lifestyle courses challenges and equips believers to
disciple self, family, congregation, and neighborhood.
Although the curriculum was launched only recently,
churches are already reporting significant adult Sunday
school attendance, personal growth, and active involvement
in teaching obedience to all that Jesus commanded. The
Foundation believes a ripple effect of repentance and
righteousness will extend from "sea to shining
sea" as an increasing number of congregations use
the curriculum.
As
a Christian, you understand the need of our times. In
the wake of terrorists' attacks and threats, economic
uncertainty, and widespread emotional tension, you long
for genuine and invulnerable security and true significance-for
yourself, your loved ones, your fellow church members,
and your neighbors. The Discipled Nation Plan Curriculum
is designed to help you find and pass along this security
and sense of significance. First, the curriculum leads
you through study sessions that focus on Biblical truth;
and secondly, it suggests workable challenges for applying
the truth. This balance of learning and living honors
what Jesus said about hearing His words and putting
them into practice (Matthew 7:24). If you are like thousands
of believers today, you will welcome this emphasis on
living your faith. And you will welcome the opportunity
to develop the kind of relationship with Jesus that
enables you to share His love with others-with personal
conviction and credibility.
When
I was a boy, I occasionally visited my country cousins.
A well and a pump supplied their family with water,
but often they had to prime the pump before the water
flowed freely. Similarly, followers of Jesus must prime
their own pumps if they hope to share refreshing, discipling
words with others. Psalm 1:2, 3 affirms this truth and
promises that the person who meditates on God's Word
"is like a tree planted by streams of water, which
yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither,
Whatever he does prospers." It's a clear case of
blessing in and blessing out!
You
may recall that Jesus appointed the twelve disciples
to be with Him and to preach (Mark 3:14). They needed
to spend time getting to know Him personally before
they spent their energies making Him known publicly.
The Discipled Nation Plan Curriculum follows this Biblical
pattern by recommending that adults study the course,
Discipling Myself, before moving on to Discipling My
Family, Discipling My Congregation, and Discipling My
Neighborhood. You may want to pursue each of these courses
on your own and/or begin a study group in your church.
The curriculum allows such flexibility.
Our
nation stands on the threshold of spiritual renewal.
Believers who disciple themselves can lead the way for
thousands of Americans to step into a life of obedience
to Jesus Christ. Let's seize the opportunity to disciple
our beloved nation in this generation!
